Max Bupa Health Insurance Company, also known as Max Bupa, was founded in 2008. It is an Indian health insurance organization that is headquartered in New Delhi, India. The organization was started as a joint venture between Bupa, which is an international healthcare group based in the UK, and Max India Limited.
In 2019, True North, which is a private equity firm, also bought stakes from Max India. Max Bupa started its operations in 2010. It has a paid-up capital of Rs.926 crore or $130 million. Max BUPA is regulated by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
Max Bupa Health Insurance Company Limited provides a range of insurance policies to its customers. As of now, its most popular policy is Max Bupa Health Companion. Max Bupa is the first health insurance company with a unique Grievance Management System integrated system with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority. This system was set up in June 2011.
In April 2019, Max Bupa also launched ‘Anytime Health (ATH)’ machines that allow customers to purchase health insurance policies in just a few seconds. The Max Bupa Health Companion Insurance plan is available in several variants. One can choose between the individual or family cover option. The family cover option is further divided into two different types, family floater and family first.

There are some key inclusions in this plan. These key inclusions are:
- In-patient treatment is provided up to the sum insured under Homeopathy, Siddha, Unani, and Ayurveda; popularly known as AYUSH treatment
- Ambulance charges of up to Rs.3,000 are provided if the in-patient claim is accepted
- Pre-hospitalization charges of up to 30 days are covered
- Post-hospitalization charges of up to 60 days are covered
- Domiciliary hospitalization charges are covered up to the base sum value
- Medical expenses of OPD treatment for vaccination and immunization after an animal bite are provided up to Rs.5,000
The key exclusions applicable in this plan are given below.
- Medical charges incurred for the treatment of HIV, AIDS, or other similar complex diseases
- Any treatment for the correction of refractive eye errors. The exception to this exclusion is in the case of an accident
- Apart from animal bite vaccination, OPD treatments are not covered
- Reproductive medicine or other maternity charges, including any assessment or treatment method
- Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER), Robotic Assisted Surgery, or any other treatment based on light
